St Peter’s:
On a beautiful sunny September morning, it was a pleasure to take part in the Historic Churches ride and enjoy the warm welcome provided at every church along the way. Two cyclists visited twelve churches in all. We began at Saint Peter’s (Mountsorrel), progressing to St Mary’s and St. Gregory’s (Sileby), Holy Trinity and Barrow Methodist (Barrow upon Soar), St. Andrew’s (Prestwold), Quorn United and Quorn Baptist Churches, and the three Rothley Churches. St Andrew’s at Prestwold was so delightful with it’s lovely rural setting, we found it difficult to drag ourselves away.
The amount raised was £175 and this was only possible due to the efforts of Christine Leader who undertook seeking sponsors and collecting money on our behalf. We would of course also like to thank all of those who responded by sponsoring us plus those who manned both Christ Church and Saint Peter’s throughout the day.

Christ Church:
Nine walkers (and a dog!) also enjoyed their day visiting 11 churches. We set off from Christchurch (Mountsorrel), visited the Rothley churches, and All Saints’ (Cossington). We had a pleasant lunch break sitting in the sun outside Sileby before visiting St Gregory’s and St Mary’s in the village. As we crossed back into Mountsorrel, four of the group decided to make St Peter’s their final stop as they needed to get home (they walked eight and a half miles in total). The remaining five went on to Holy Trinity and Barrow Methodist (Barrow upon Soar) and Quorn United and Quorn Baptist Churches (Quorn), reaching St Peter’s (Mountsorrel) just after 6pm, covering a distance of twelve and a half miles in total.

A great effort achieved by Dipen, Ashley, Sarah, Ian & Marie, Paul & Alison, Dorothy & Heather who all took part in the Churches Sponsored Walk and visited up to eleven churches. Between them they managed to raise the sum of £275.70 in sponsorship money, half of which will go to the Leicestershire Historic Churches preservation Trust, the other half of £137.85 being the share for Christ Church. There will be an additional cheque to follow in due course being the half share of reclaimed tax from the gift aid forms.
The cyclists and walkers would like to thank all of those who responded by sponsoring us, plus those who staffed both Christ Church and Saint Peter’s throughout the day.

Christ Church.
Five walkers spent the day visiting 11 churches covering a distance of 13 miles. Well done, Belinda! Nine cyclists followed a route of 42 miles and visited 29 churches. Of course, some of us struggled to keep up with our youth, Jonathon and Ashley. Together the walkers and cyclists of Christ Church managed to raise in sponsorship the total sum of £384.90. A cheque for £192.45 has been paid into an account for the Youth Work of the church to be used for the specific needs of Pathfinders and CYFA. There will follow a cheque for £26.74 in due course, being a half share of the reclaimed tax from the Gift Aid forms. Many thanks to all who sponsored us. Christ Church was open all day with refreshments - a big thank you to the seven people who manned the church with a warm welcome.
