Remembrance Day 2006

Sunday, November 12th 2006, saw an excellent turnout of various organisations with the Royal British Legion, Scouts, Guides, Army and Navy cadets, Boys’ Brigade, and visiting dignitaries.

All assembled on the Green, and paraded down to St Peter’s Church, headed by the Loughborough Co-operative, Snibson, Charnwood Brass Band, who also played throughout the service.

The service was led by the Rev K Emmett and local clergy. Dignitaries in attendance were the Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood, Lady Martin, Mr and Mrs Higgins as representatives of the Lord Lieutenant, Parish Council chairman Mr and Mrs D B Allard.

The names of the fallen for 1914/1918, were read by Eric Preston and Noel Wakeling of the Royal British Legion, and the names of the fallen for 1939/1945 were read by Ella Whittington.

After the service the parade reassembled on the Market Place, and marched back to the Green where it was dismissed.

Refreshments were available in the Memorial Hall, where the secretary of the Mountsorrel Branch of the Royal British Legion Peggy Clarke thanked everyone for their help and attendance.
