Visit of Gail Phillip 2006

On Sunday 19th November 2006 we had the pleasure of a visit to Christ Church Mountsorrel of Gail Phillip, our CMS link worker in Thailand.

She explained the history of Christ Church Bangkok which is 100 years old and started as a Christian church for English speaking ex-patriots. A few decades ago the church was expanded to cater for a new Thai congregation.

Gail has been working in Thailand since May 2000. She is now Director of Rainbowland Child Development Centre (RCDC). RCDC is a child care ministry, providing pre-school education for chidren aged 2 to 6 years. Gail oversees the operation of three RCDC branches, in Bangkok, Sawang Daendin (north east Thailand) and Banchang.

The childcare centres provide an important bridge–builder between the church and the local community, where less than 1% of the population is Christian. Using Thai staff, the centres are open from 7am to 6pm to allow parents to avoid the traffic bottlenecks common in Bangkok.

After the service many of us stayed behind to enjoy lunch with Gail in the Bower Room.

Following lunch, Kerry presented Gail with a flower arrangement. This had been organised by John Ricketts who sent his best wishes with apologies for not being present.
