"Kingdom Come" coming to Mountsorrel - Saturday 10th June 2006 On the evening of Saturday 10th June 2006, the village
of Mountsorrel will have the opportunity to see a one-man play on the
life of Christ entitled "Kingdom Come". The play is performed by
Eric Petrossian, a professional actor and stand-up comic. On Good
Friday 2004, Eric played the part of Jesus in an open-air Passion play “Christ
InThe Centre”, which was
performed in Leicester city centre. An audience of over 4,000 people
came to watch the play, and the highlights were later broadcast on
Central Television. The Leicester Mercury wrote: "the actor playing Jesus gave a
wonderfully dignified performance."For "Kingdom Come: The Life of Christ", Eric brings his experience as an actor and entertainer together with his faith to produce a dramatisation of the gospels that is accessible, enjoyable and moving for Christians and non-Christians alike. Eric performs the gospels entirely from memory, playing the narrator and more than thirty characters. Since the premiere in June 2003, Eric has performed the play at over a hundred churches across the country, and also at theatres, arts festivals, secondary schools, Bible weeks, and University and College Christian Unions. He has also performed the play internationally, and has a further US tour planned for 2006. The presentation will take place in Christ Church, Rothley Road, Mountsorrel, and will last 1 hour 25 minutes. There will be an interval, and refreshments will be served after the presentation. Admission is free, but please obtain a ticket in advance by contacting P. Hodson on 0116 230 3828. If you would like further information about the performance and/or access to the building, please contact A. Parkinson on 0116 230 1466. About the Performer Eric
Petrossian trained as an actor at degree level at Trinity College,
University of Wales, from where he graduated with honours.
About
the PlayIn 1998, Eric was chosen to represent the country at the International Thespis Festival in Jerusalem, a festival of one-man plays. This was a double honour as it was the first year that anyone from the UK had been selected to perform there. At the festival, he performed a full-length one-man play, Harry’s Christmas by Steven Berkoff, to a packed crowd - selling more tickets than any other play at the festival. Eric also has a successful background in stand-up comedy, having performed alongside the likes of Peter Kay and Ricky Gervais. He has performed on Carlton Television’s Net.Comedy and Radio 5’s Sunday Service, and also performed live at such prestigious venues as the Comedy Store, the Hackney Empire and Ealing Studios. He has also appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the live Grand Final of Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny Stand-Up Awards 1999. Eric also made it to the semi-finals of BBC New Talent 2000, which was televised by the BBC. The critics have described him as: “Impressive… professional… genuinely inventive” (The Stage), “Enjoyable and entertaining” (Time Out), “Excellent” (Bath Chronicle) and “Brilliant” (StandupCom Magazine). He has also performed the play internationally (California, USA) and has a further US tour planned for 2006. In January 2005, the play was the subject of a half-hour programme on Premier Christian Radio, which averages between a quarter and half a million listeners, including excerpts and a live studio interview. In July 2005, UCB Europe ran a similar half-hour programme over two days. “Eric Petrossian has that rare gift of a fine stage presence. The audience was captivated from the start… It was as if one were hearing it for the very first time. An unforgettable experience.” - The Henley Standard |
