Welcome to the Internet home page for Christ Church and St. Peters Anglican churches in Mountsorrel, which are in the Deanery of Akeley East, the Archdeaconry of Loughborough, and this is part of the Diocese of Leicester.

In Mountsorrel we have two Anglican Churches, each with its own Parish and Parochial Church Council (PCC), but they share one incumbent Priest-in-Charge, which makes them a United Benefice.

Please feel free to come to any of our services or other events. Both churches have a warm welcome waiting for you and your chidren and services are usually followed by chatting over a cuppa.
Christ Church has a childrens play area and childrens activities can be provided in a separate room.

Both churches have sound amplification with 'audio loop' and disabled-people friendly toilets. Christ Church has nappy changing facility and easy wheelchair assess to the nave and toilets.

Both of our churches are members of the East Akeley South Mission Partnership. There are ten churches in the partnership. The idea of a Mission Partnership grew out of the Diocese initiative "Shaped by God" which encouraged parishes to form local partnerships. Experience Harvest

Friday October7th – Thursday October 13th 2011

Experience Harvest was an opportunity for the children from Christ Church and St Peter’s C of E (Controlled) Primary School, Mountsorrel to consider various aspects of harvest in relation to various ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ (Holy Bible, Galatians 5: v22-23).

Displays on the following themes were set up around the church:
Harvests of the garden ~ linked to Patience.
Seeds were set. We have to be patient waiting for the seeds to grow.
Harvest of the ocean ~ linked to Peace.
Jesus calming the storm on the lake was remembered, and origami boats were made. If we have Jesus with us, He will keep us at peace.
Harvest of the flock ~ linked to Humility.
Processes of wool were considered, weaving explained and as each thread is as important as all the others to make a cloth, so we as individuals are just as important as everyone else, but not more than anyone else.
Harvest of the grain ~ linked to Generosity.
Harvest, threshing and milling were explained with consideration that some people in the world do not have enough to eat, so we should share generously. A piece of bread was shared with the group.
Harvests of the earth ~ linked to Joy.
Products from the Earth include coal, metals, rocks, precious stones and clay. The children made a small pot from clay which will dry at room temperature. Later it can be given as a gift. Giving and receiving gifts gives us joy.

The children visited each display (or station) in small groups and each group received a token fruit at each station representing Patience, Peace, Humility, Generosity and Joy.
All the groups joined together for Harvest Thanksgiving where the Jewish ceremony of SUKKOT was explained together with the booth

We have since heard that the children and teachers enjoyed the Experience Harvest. One class of year 5 children sent us a file of thank you letters written by all the children in that class.
At the Harvest Assembly in school the Headteacher asked the children to put their hand up if they enjoyed Experience Harvest and it looked as though every hand was up.
On Saturday 15th October (at the end of the week) the church was open for the public to view the displays of Experience Harvest and three children brought their parents to see it.
